Lively start to the Schmalympic Games with the Jazz-O-Phonics

On Monday, June 17th, an impressive concert took place on the Schmalkalden University campus, made possible by the cooperation between the University of Schmalkalden, the student council, and the Schmalkalden Music School, as well as the support of the WORT project. This event marked the first official performance of the new ensemble and was also the second summer concert of the music school.

Under the direction of jazz musician Carsten Daerr, the ensemble presented a diverse jazz program. Over ten musicians, including students, professors, teachers, pupils, and town residents, had prepared for this day with only two months of intensive rehearsals. The improvisational nature of jazz encouraged the musicians to communicate and mutually play musical cues, embodying cross-cultural encounters in an impressive way. The WORT project played a crucial role in initiating the ensemble, which is now being continued by the music school. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and rehearsals will resume after the summer holidays.
